Building Access Update: Effective October 1, 2026, select doors to Boelter Hall will be locked at all times, in addition to all doors to Engineering IV and V and select doors to Engineering VI, which have remained locked since last October and this March, respectively. These entrances are accessible only with an authorized BruinCard.

The UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science kicked off the 2026-27 academic year with two days of welcome events this week at the Court of Sciences. Nearly 700 new master’s and doctoral students and more than 1,100 first-year and transfer students have enrolled in the school this fall.

Frog-like Hopping Robot Propelled by Twisting Elastic Rods
Roboticists at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering and the University of Michigan have shown that elastic rods can be bent and twisted to repeatedly snap between shapes, releasing built-up energy that enables small robots to hop, flip and swim.
