In addition to his adjunct professorship at UCLA, Carey Nachenberg works full time at X, Alphabet’s moonshot factory. X invents and launches “moonshot” technologies with the goal of making the world a radically better place, and is best known for its Chauffeur self-driving car project, Loon internet balloons, and advanced drones. Prior to joining X, Carey served as Fellow and chief engineer at cyber-security firm Symantec, where he was responsible for the architecture of Symantec’s core protection technologies and security analytics.

OtherCarey holds over 90 United States patents in the software field. He has also recently published his first thriller novel, The Florentine Deception, and is donating all proceeds from sales (so far more than $10,000) to charities benefitting underserved students and veterans.
