Committed to better ways to deliver healthcare in the United States through both multiple philanthropic endeavors and business ventures, Dr. Soon-Shiong, a noted physician, surgeon and research scientist, has pioneered treatments in both diabetes and cancer, published more than 100 scientific papers and holds 50 U.S. patents. Dr. Soon-Shiong has also developed and sold two multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies, American Pharma Partners (APP) and Abraxis Bioscience (ABII).
Dr. Soon-Shiong supports the development of next generation and wireless technologies for the better management of chronic disease. He founded the National Coalition for Health Integration (NCHI) to create a national health information network for the secure sharing of biomedical information. Furthermore, Dr. Soon-Shiong’s HTI is a non-profit, innovative healthcare organization that is dedicated to revolutionizing healthcare delivery.
Dr. Soon-Shiong’s research has been recognized by prominent organizations with numerous national and international awards including the Association for Academic Surgery Award for Research, the American College of Surgeons Schering Scholar, the Royal College Physicians and Surgeons Research Award, and the Peter Kiewit Distinguished Membership in Medicine Award, just to name a few.
In 2010, the Los Angeles Business Journal recognized Dr. Soon-Shiong as their Business Person of the Year, and the National Library of Medicine honored him with their Distinguished Medical Science Award.
Among his many positions, he is the Executive Director of the UCLA Wireless Health Institute, an advisory board member of the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) at UCLA, of the Institute of Technology Advancement (ITA) at UCLA Engineering and of the California Telehealth Network.
