UCLA Engineering ranked high in 2016-17 Times Higher Education list

Criteria for the rankings included teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. UCLA was tied with Georgia Tech in 13th. The top five universities for engineering and technology were Caltech, Stanford, Oxford, MIT and Cambridge. Other U.S. schools in the top 15 include Princeton (seventh); UC Berkeley (10th) and Carnegie Mellon (15th).
UCLA Engineering was particular strong in the research category, which counts for 30 percent of the overall score. Its research score of 99.6, placed it fifth in the world.
Subjects used for the engineering and technology rankings include general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering, and chemical engineering. The methodology for engineering and technology ranking is available here.
UCLA also placed well in several other world subject rankings including ninth in social sciences; 12th in clinical, pre-clinical and health; 13th in physical sciences; 13th in arts and humanities; and 18th in life sciences. UCLA was 14th in the Times Higher Education University Rankings, which were announced on September 21.
