Timothy J. Frei is sector vice president of Global Strategy and Mission Solutions at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, a premier provider of military aircraft, autonomous and space systems and next-generation solutions to assist our customers worldwide, preserve freedom and advance human discovery.

In this role, Frei is responsible for the development, expansion and growth of the Aerospace Systems’ sector strategy, business growth and worldwide program and product pursuits.

Previously, he served as vice president of Communications Systems for the Space Systems division, providing architectures, systems, payloads, advanced products and technologies to satisfy the communication needs of air, space and terrestrial users across the Department of Defense, intelligence, NASA, civil, commercial and international communities. In that role, Frei was also responsible for the development, production, integration, and test of the Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) and Enhanced Polar System payloads, and on-orbit operations of the AEHF and Milstar payloads.

Previously, Frei was vice president of the System Enhancements and Product Applications organization, overseeing all aspects of Space Systems’ growth, including strategy formulation, program and product development, technology roadmapping and discretionary investment portfolio management of space programs for restricted national, civil and military space customers.

Earlier in his career, Frei was vice president of Advanced Systems at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, responsible for the formulation and execution of the sector’s strategy for the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance market area. Frei also has served as director of Engineering Operations and director of Systems Engineering within the Northrop Grumman Space Technology sector. Additionally, he held the role of Systems Engineering Integration test lead and chief engineer on major space system development programs. His program experience spans more than 20 different space programs in 11 mission areas, covering all phases of engineering, from concept definitions, through design, production, integration, test, launch and operations.

Frei earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from UCLA. Additionally, he completed the UCLA Executive Program at the Anderson School of Business and is a chartered financial analyst.
