Robert E. Englekirk MS ’65, PhD ’70
Founder and Chairman Emeritus

Robert Englekirk has had a profound impact on structural engineering around the world and, in particular, civil infrastructure in California. Founder and chairman emeritus of the Los Angeles-based firm Englekirk, which has designed more than $100 billion worth of construction projects, he is known for his innovative and constructible design of reinforced concrete.

Englekirk designs include the Getty Center, the Hollywood and Highland center, the U.S. District Courthouse in San Deigo and the 40-story Paramount residential building in San Francisco – the tallest precast concrete building in California. He has received numerous awards from the American Concrete Institute and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is an adjunct professor in civil engineering and also has taught structural engineering at the University of Southern California and UC San Diego.

In 2015 Englekirk and his wife Natalie established the Englekirk Presidential Endowed Chair in Structural Engineering at UCLA Engineering.
