2013 Senior Dinner and Graduate Student Dinner

Engineering Graduate Student Dinner
On Friday, May 30, approximately 90 engineering graduate students, faculty, and staff, joined Dean Vijay K. Dhir at the James West Alumni Center to celebrate the end of the academic year, acknowledge those graduate students who are receiving academic awards from their departments, and recognize the efforts of the Graduate Student Campaign, which was run by the Engineering Graduate Student Association (EGSA). This was the second annual presentation of this event.

MaryTheresa Pendergast MS ‘11, President of the EGSA, serving as master of ceremonies, welcomed the group and introduced Dean Dhir, who provided an overview of the school, and encouraged graduating graduate students to pursue success and remember UCLA Engineering.  Reza Mortezaie, MS ’10, PhD ’12 described how important UCLA has been in his life, and how he will continue to stay connected with UCLA Engineering. The EGSA Board presented the dean with a check for $1,165 from 58 graduate student donors.

Engineering Senior Dinner
On Thursday, May 30, approximately 250 UCLA engineering seniors, faculty, and staff joined Dean Dhir at Covel Commons to celebrate the end of the academic year, acknowledge those seniors who are receiving awards from their departments, conduct the Order of the Engineer ceremony, and recognize the efforts of the 2013 Senior Campaign.  This was the 10th annual presentation of this event.

Leonard Bonilla ’70, President of the Engineering Alumni Association, congratulated the seniors and described some ways that they can remain connected with the School. Alex Capecelatro ’10, Aleksandra Mstowska ’12, and Eliza Sheppard MS ’05, MBA ’10 conducted the Order of the Engineer ceremony. The Senior Campaign Committee presented Dean Dhir a check for $3,809 from 212 donors. The amount was matched by members of the Engineering Alumni Association Governing Board, and the total raised will be $7,609. Brian Walz ’13 sang an original song about his experiences in engineering to conclude the evening.
