Founders to Futurists: 50th Anniversary of the Internet Join UCLA Samueli on Oct. 29 at Royce
Hall as we celebrate 50 years to the day when Distinguished Professor
of Computer Science Leonard Kleinrock’s team sent the first message over
the Arpanet from 3420 Boelter Hall. That historic moment transformed
his mathematical theory of packet-switching into what would become the
modern internet.
Leading technologists and visionaries, including Eric Schmidt, Mark Cuban, Jameela Jamil, Henry Samueli, Ron Conway, Patrisse Cullors, Jamie Dimon, Ashton Kutcher and Peter Thiel, will discuss the genesis, current state and future aspirations of our connected world.
Deep Learning to i.d. cancer cells New technology, developed by Prof.
Bahram Jalali and colleagues, uses AI to detect cancer cells hundreds of
times faster than previous methods.
Carbon capture team in home stretch
A UCLA team, led by Prof. Gaurav Sant, is preparing for the finals of an
international prize for turning carbon emissions into commercial
products.
Researchers are trying to cut carbon emissions “So if you want construction to
continue to grow, you need solutions to it that have a much lower carbon
intensity.” – Prof. Gaurav Sant on NPR.
Supercomputing Heat Transfer between 2D Electronic Components
“Reducing the thermal boundary
resistance, or TBR, could significantly improve heat dissipation from
hot spots and lead to revolutionary advances in high-performance
electronics.” – Prof. Yongjie Hu in Inside HPC
In Memoriam: Professor Ken Nobe Ken Nobe, a UCLA professor emeritus
of engineering, world-renowned for his early studies of catalytic air
pollution control of exhaust emissions and research in electrochemical
processes, passed away on July 11.
