Dr. Fumio Yamazaki is currently Research Fellow at the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), Tsukuba, Japan and Professor Emeritus at Chiba University, Japan. He received Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1987. He joined the Institute of Industrial Science at University of Tokyo in 1989 as Associate Professor. He joined Graduate School of Engineering at Chiba University as Professor in 2003 and worked there until March 2019. His research interests include earthquake engineering, stochastic mechanics, and application of GIS and remote sensing to disaster management. He received Doctor Honoris Causa from National University of Engineering, Peru in 2007. He is a member of many professional organizations in Japan and USA including ASCE, EERI, JSCE, AIJ and JAEE. He is a member of advisory committees of local and central governments of Japan.
